Rebuilding Malmö Central station

Over the last few years the railway services in Skåne have exceeded all expectations. This is an extremely positive development since travel by train is fast, comfortable and environmentally-friendly. In order to meet the increasing demands Malmö C is undergoing vast reconstruction as part of the Citytunnel Project.

Improved accessibility and new venues

The Citytunnel will create an efficient connection between the Southern Main Line and the Öresund Link. Accessibility to Malmö will improve and travel times within the region will be reduced. Malmö C will change in several ways. Parallel to the existing central hall a glass hall will be constructed, leading to the new station section built underground. Inside the station building there will be new cafés and restaurants. Around the station new bicycle paths and pavements will be built as well as a new regional bus terminal and more convenient parking lots.

2009

• Installations of the underground station.
• Construction of the glass hall.
• August 24 the regional train station (Pågatågstationen) will be closed due to reconstruction. Until 13 December all trains will depart from tracks 2-7.

2010

• From 13 December 2009 to December 11 2010 all trains will depart from the rebuilt part of Pågatågsstationen, tracks 8-13.
• The marshalling yard will undergo an extensive building project when the Southern Main Line connects to the Citytunnel.
• December 11 – the inauguration of the Citytunnel.

Crowded and messy

As the railway services will run at half track capacity for 16 months the station will at certain times feel very crowded and messy. To deal with the situation we encourage you to:

• Allow for extra time before departure.
• Many trains will have more carriages than normal. Walk far enough along the platform.
• Be considerate to your fellow passengers.
• Please, be patient – it will be very worth it when we have finished!
